Summary Data Summary
Investigator Carter-Su, Christin
Description Mutations in the scaffold protein SH2B1 (e.g. P322S in the PH domain) have been
identified in individuals with severe early-onset childhood obesity, insulin
resistance, and hyperphagia, a phenotype mirrored by mice lacking Sh2b1
(SH2B1-KO mice). Therefore, we hope to gain insight into, at the molecular and
whole animal level, how SH2B1 and this mutation affect energy balance and
glucose homeostasis. This new insight is expected to identify potential new
therapeutic targets for obesity, a condition that is associated with metabolic
syndrome, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and cardiac disease.
